http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/10/25/dog-trapped-in-abandoned-mine-rescued-by-colorado-hikers.htmlPreston Gladd was hiking in Colorado and kept hearing weird noises, but thought it must have been wild animals. A week later Gladd went hiking once again and heard the exact same noises in the same location he was in the week before. The noise he kept hearing was barking and he realized a dog fallen into an abandoned mine shaft. Gladd ended up calling a friend to help him rescue the dog. Once they were able to get the dog they were able to identify it as Cheyenne who was filled with joy that she was rescued. By showing thanks she was very affectionate and they gave Cheyenne food and water. After, being rescued Cheyenne was reunited with her family once again.

http://www.foxnews.com/science/2017/10/25/this-bears-tongue-weighed-as-much-as-newborn-human.htmlAn Asiatic bear also, known a moon bear has a tongue that weighs about seven pounds.Seven pounds may not seem like a lot, but it is when you realize it is the same weight as a newborn baby. The bear has had this tongue weighing this much for a month. By having seven pounds in it's mouth it was unable to close it's mouth and his tongue would tend to drag on the floor. With the tongue always bringing the bear down it would make his very tired fast and he would always rest his head on the side of the cage.Heather Bacon a veterinarian believes the reason for the tongue weighing so much is the fact that it can be genetic or a form of elephantiasis caused by infection. Not long before under going surgery that took four hours last year the bear went through surgery last in which tissue was removed to reduce swelling. However, the swelling did come back worse. Luckily the bear is adjusting day to day and is now able to live a life without seven pounds in his mouth stopping him.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/10/13/latest-some-gains-made-against-california-wildfires.htmlAs the wildfires continue in Sonoma and Napa it has been contained by 22% as of Friday. Thousands of firefighters are currently battling 21 wildfires as of right now which is more than 300 square miles. Since Sunday it has been reported that 31 people have died and the numbers are still might rise as they continue to look for more people. About 3,500 homes and businesses have been destroyed, On the other hand Pope Francis has been praying for those who have been affected and those who have lost loved ones in these fires. The Pope has also encouraged people to get involved and help out . These wildfires are no where near over and they are less than 10% contained. There are still hundreds of people missing and injured, with the death toll expected to rise.As of now this is set to the deadliest California wildfire yet in the history of California wildfires. The reason one should care about this wildfire is because it is fairly close to us. By it being close to us it can affect people who are around us and some people might have family or friends who live over there and are being affected.Plus there is ways to help those who are being affected by this terrible wildfire.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/plant-makes-boba-startup-wants-use-it-clean-plastic-n805766Kevin Kumala took a visit back to his native Indonesia, but as he visited he no longer saw the clear oceans and the white sandy beaches. Instead it was all covered in plastic and by that it started a spark in Kumala to do something about this. From recent studies Indonesia has added about 480,000 and 1.29 million metric tons of plastic since 2010 due to poor waste management and littering. What really changed everything for Kumala is when he saw a turtle pass by with his neck entangled in plastic. Within that moment Kumala decided to stop pursuing a degree in the medical field and decided to focus on the environment. By 2014 he opened Avani Eco which they produce biodegradable products to replace plastic. The company produces bags made out of starch from cassava roots which is mostly found in tropical countries and is used to make tapioca. Everything about the bags they produce is biodegradable and compostable. The company also uses waste from sugar cane in order to create bowls, plates, and takeaway boxes for a variety of hotels. Straws are a very huge focus for the company and they do offer two alternatives for straws. One straw is made out of paper that usesasoy based wax lining and a straw derived from cornstarch. Avani Eco is located in Indonesia were they are currently undergoing research and development. However, many of their customers are in hospitality industry which Avani Ecos does plan to eventually work on Eco friendly products such, as toothbrushes, shampoo bottles, razor kits, and more. Since Avani Eco has developed they have replaced close to 200 tons of plastic in Indonesia alone.Despite that they are located in Indonesia the company does focus on countries all over the world.
This is interesting for various reasons on how Kumala basically was mortified on how his native home land Indonesia looked. In which it inspired him to change the career path he was gonna pursue in order to make a difference and change the environment. |
