https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/02/health/penguins-antarctica-massive-colony-trnd/index.htmlNumbering over 1.5 million birds the penguins were the first spotted in great patches on their poo from photos that taken from space. They were spotted crowded on Dangers Island which was one very huge surprise because the island is really hard to find and they weren't really looking for the island. Scientists used an algorithm to search images of possible penguin activity with American Landsat spacecraft. The Landsat never really comes back with high resolution pictures, but once the penguins were flagged the images came back in high resolution. Dr. Lynch from Stony Brook University in New York was beyond shocked knowing this was one of the largest Adelie penguin colonies in the world. The down fall to this was that the island is difficult to reach in order to get there and remain there. Once again software was called to take action and take pictures. This time they were able to indicate that about 751, 527 penguins live on this island which they are the third and fourth largest colonies in the world. Scientist noticed that there was a huge decline of penguins which can be from climate change resulting in sea ice that plays a huge role in their ecosystem. This is important because new technology helps scientists and others to be aware of what issues are going on that we can't get to so we can find ways to beaware and study the issues surrounding it.
